Denver, a city that holds a special place in Danilo Gallinari's heart, has an intriguing story to tell. Despite his plans to retire there, a twist of fate led him to raise his family elsewhere.
"Denver is my favorite city," Gallinari shared, "but my wife had other plans."
The nickname "Gallo," Italian for rooster, suits him well, but his hen's decision to settle in Miami left Denver as a beloved memory.
"It's underrated," he added, revealing his initial unfamiliarity with the Mile High City during his early NBA days.
But Denver quickly became home after the Carmelo Anthony trade.
"It was family when I was a player, and it still feels like a family," he reminisced.
His NBA journey continued with the Clippers, Thunder, Hawks, Wizards, and Pistons, before ending with the Bucks in 2024.
"I just love the game," Gallinari said of his post-NBA career, playing casually in Miami and leading the Vaqueros de Bayamón to a championship in Puerto Rico.
"I'm still playing with my friends every Sunday. I can't live without basketball."
While he's no longer dominating the courts in Denver, Gallinari's focus has shifted to family life.
"I have three kids now, and being a father is my priority. I'm trying to be the best father I can be."
So, while Denver remains his favorite city, his heart is now in Miami, where his family resides.
